Your stories, your rights: ownership and safety
A plain-language summary of what our Terms and Privacy Policy say about owning your stories, AI output, visibility, remixes, reports, and your data.

Before you put a story you care about into a new tool, you probably want to know three things. Is it still mine? Who can see it or build on it? What happens if someone misuses it? This post answers those questions in plain language.
It is a summary, not a replacement. What governs is our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy, both last revised on June 4, 2026. We give section numbers so you can check each point yourself. Where the documents do not cover something, we have left it out rather than guess. None of this is legal advice.
1. What you bring in stays yours
The Terms call what you submit "User Content": your prompts, uploads (including a script you bring), comments, and feedback. You keep all rights in your User Content (Terms §3.1).
To run the service, you give Pominis a limited license to host, store, process, display, and transmit that content, "solely as necessary to provide, secure, and improve the Services and to comply with law" (§3.1). That is a license, not a transfer of ownership. In turn, you are responsible for making sure what you upload is yours to use and follows the Acceptable Use Policy (§3.1, §6).
2. What the AI generates, and what you can do with it
Pominis uses AI models, including third-party providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google, to generate text, images, and other assets. The Terms call this "AI Output" (§2). What you can do with it depends on your plan (§3.2):
- Free plan: a personal license to use AI Output for non-commercial purposes only.
- Paid plan: Pominis assigns to you all rights it may own in AI Output, and you may use, modify, distribute, and monetize it for any lawful purpose. The one exception is that you may not use it to train competing generative-AI models.
Two caveats come straight from §3.2. First, AI output can be inaccurate or incomplete, or can infringe someone else's rights, and you are expected to review it before you publish. Second, the Terms assign the rights Pominis may own. They do not promise that copyright exists in AI-generated material; that depends on the law where you are.
3. You choose who sees it
Nothing is public until you publish it. The publish dialog offers three levels of access:
- Public: listed in discovery and on your profile. Anyone can play.
- Unlisted: not listed publicly. Anyone with the link can play, and links can be forwarded.
- Private: only you can open it, and no public play link is created.
You can change this later. A separate Show creation process switch decides whether visitors can see how the story was made. Unlisted publishing and HTML export come with a paid creation plan.
4. Building on each other's work
Two independent switches in the publish settings control what other creators can do with your published story:
- Allow derivative stories: other creators can publish their own version, which carries a permanent "Derived from" link to your story and your name.
- Allow collaborative contributions: other creators can edit an isolated copy and submit it. Nothing in your story changes until you review and merge it.
On a first publish, derivatives start switched on and contributions start switched off. Check both before you publish; you can change either one.
5. Keeping the community safe
The Acceptable Use Policy (§6) rules out illegal, harmful, harassing, hateful, defamatory, or obscene content, content that infringes someone else's intellectual property or privacy, scraping, reverse-engineering, and attempts to get around security. Pominis may remove content or suspend accounts to enforce it (§6, §12).
- Reporting a story: signed-in readers can choose Report this story and pick a reason (sexual content, hate or violence, harassment or bullying, copyright or impersonation, spam or misleading, or something else) and add details. Reports are reviewed by the Pominis team.
- Reporting a comment: any comment can be reported with one tap from its menu.
- Blocking: from a comment, you can block its author. You will no longer see their comments, they cannot interact with you, and any follows between you are removed.
- Your comment section: on your own story, you can pin comments and delete any comment.
If you believe something on Pominis infringes your copyright or trademark, send a notice to our DMCA agent as described in Terms §16, by email to colin@pominis.com, with the information required by 17 U.S.C. §512(c)(3).
Pominis is not intended for children under 13, or under the minimum age where you live. The only exception is limited educational use through a school that has verifiable parental consent (Terms §1, §15; Privacy §11).
6. Your data
What we collect (Privacy §2): profile and contact details, limited billing data handled by our payment processor, your prompts and uploads, device and usage data, approximate location from your IP address, and information from sign-in services you choose to connect.
Who processes it (§4): service providers including cloud hosting (AWS), analytics (Google Analytics, PostHog), AI APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google AI), payments (Stripe), and support (Intercom). We never sell or rent your personal information for money (§4).
AI providers (§10): prompts and uploads are sent to AI providers only to produce what you asked for, and we instruct those providers not to use your prompts or AI Output to train their models unless you have separately opted in.
Your choices (§8): depending on where you live, you can ask to access, correct, delete, restrict, or export your personal information, and you can unsubscribe from marketing at any time. Requests go by email to colin@pominis.com.
7. A few other things worth knowing
- Paid plans and credits are billed in US dollars. Except where the law requires otherwise, fees are non-refundable. You can cancel anytime and keep access until the end of the billing cycle (Terms §5).
- The referral program has its own short rules: rewards unlock when an invited friend publishes their first public story, up to 50 rewards per link, and suspicious activity can void them.
- If we make a material change to the Terms or the Privacy Policy, we will give notice, for example by email or in the product (Terms §1; Privacy §12).
Questions
If you have a question we don't cover here, or think we have described something wrongly, email us at colin@pominis.com (Terms §19) or ask in our Discord. We would rather make a confusing policy clearer than have you guess.
